My Music
LIVERPOOLJAZZ
Please note that as from 1st August 2021, Victor and I have shut down Liverpooljazz which no longer operates.
We have also closed down our Liverpooljazz email address, website, listings guide and correspondence.
Victor and I wish to thank all those in the jazz and music community for the support you have given us over the 15 very successful years we ran the organisation. It has been our pleasure working with, and for, so many enthusiastic people. We believe we were able to play a small part in raising the profile of live jazz performance around Merseyside and the northwest of England.
One of the most satisfying and rewarding projects we completed in the name of Liverpooljazz was to create a bursary fund from the money we received in the will of one of our own supporters who specified that we use the money to fulfill our work raising the profile of live jazz performance on Merseyside and the region. Among the numerous projects we supported, we were able to support the work of local jazz musicians, sponsor jazz festivals in Wigan, Southport and Liverpool, sponsor pieces of work by students, purchase equipment for local jazz clubs, curate and present concerts to promote the work of the Institute of Popular Music at the University of Liverpool and even sponsor media students at Edge Hill University to produce a video of a cabaret style music entertainment television programme.

RADIO PROGRAMME
What ran for over 100 programmes on Liverpool Community Radio in the name of Liverpooljazz, has now terminated along with the Liverpooljazz operation. However the nice people at LCR asked me to carry on with a two hour regular programme of all genres of music and chat on local topics and issues and usually includes interviews with local people. I record the programme at the studios of Liverpool Community Radio which goes out across Greater Merseyside on 106.7fm. My programme is just one of those scheduled by the studio. In addition and until further notice the programme goes out via a podcast around the clock on demand and accessible on your computer or smart phone by going to https://www.spreaker.com/show/swerdlow-co
MUSIC REMINISCENCE THERAPY
I present monthly music reminiscence therapy sessions at a care home in Liverpool.
TALKS ON MUSIC
By arrangement, from time to time, I give talks to social and cultural groups on the subject of the contribution made by Jewish Composers and Lyricists to the American and British Popular Song. This is usually a one hour informal but structured talk with musical excerpts and projected images. I take each song and talk about the writers and collaborators from a list of over 200 well known, and not so well known. Researching the many composers enabled me to complete a 143 page anthology.
